Tumblr and I have a love hate relationship. It is a roller coaster ride of emotion.
I love how quick and simple and easy it is to post stuff. I love that I don’t have to edit my posts to get photos/videos looking nice. It just happens. I love how simple templates are to make. And yet they are so complex too. I love the bookmarklet. And the API. And that it is fun. And creative.
I hate that you can’t browse by type in someones blog (unless the posts are tagged, which I have started doing btw) I hate tumblraity, as it is pointless. I hate having a conversation over rebloging. The whole of my blog could be covered in reblogs, creating the same post over and over thus adding visual noise. And you have to trawl back a few posts to understand what is going on when one post and comments will do. I hate you have to add Disqus (or something similar) to get comments (although it isn’t hard). I hate that you have to use Javascript to do anything cool on your site which means anyone with it turned off only gets half a site.
I hate that this post sounds like a kid moaning.
I hate that I have used hate instead of ‘dislike’ and that I am too lazy to change it.
So. Tumblr. Add search by type. It surely can’t be difficult. It is in your API. Heck, I have created an app that can do it. Also add comments. Remove/improve tumblrarity. kthnxbye.
At the end of the day, its not a big deal. I still keep coming back to tumblr.
Right. Tired. Bed.
