It’s like I’m waiting for the movie of my life to begin instead of realizing that I’m already living it. What I’m experiencing right now is my life. Not what I imagine my life to be like in five years.
”

-
Ryan Carson - My Biggest Temptation

I know this feeling well… I have spent so much time waiting for this time where “everything will be ok” that I miss everything that is going on right now. I am constantly on the search for this state of being OK that I think is actually perfection. And we all know perfection is unobtainable, but I keep striving and pushing myself for it.

Some say that is a good thing. You might of heard the phrase “Shoot for the sky and at least you’ll get the tree tops.” The idea being that if you push yourself you will get the best you can.

My issue is that I am not content with the tree tops. That actually the tree tops are a failure because I shot for the sky. This creates a lot of pressure and stress for me which has lead to a lot of confusion and illness.

So now I am trying to lower my expectations. Accepting that perfection IS unobtainable. And learning to be content in the tree tops.

Forget Startups, this a lesson for life!

Once I’ve finished, I often find myself twiddling my thumbs thinking; “What shall I go on now?”

I’m sure I could I find some interesting blogs on things I am into. A quick Google search would bring up thousands of entries. But honestly, I don’t want to look at anything. And I think I know why; consumption fatigue.

There is so much awesome stuff on the net that you can read, watch, listen to etc. But sometimes it just gets a bit to much. My brain is over stimulated as it is and I don’t think anything more would help.

And yet I can’t close the laptop lid. There is something that is drawing me to the keyboard to type in an address. Or maybe check Facebook one more time in case the little red dot of joy is there with, preferable a high, number on it.

I wonder if it is time to start creating more, rather than consuming. And maybe that doesn’t involve the Internet.

Create More Than You Consume

Create More Than You Consume

Plan B - Ill Manor

They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girlfriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are The Advertisers and they are laughing at you.

You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity.

Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head.

You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.
”

-
Banksy, from Cut It Out (via zaschell)

Far from presenting the best of me, we show the world the ugly truth about how we really want to be seen. That string of self-serving posts about our latest success alerts others to our issues – arrogance/insecurity or whatever else is at root. The faux-glam photos might have missed the double chin, but they can’t hide the need to be seen as something that we’re not. One week, 14,000 members, various national newspaper articles, £1000 raised for Marie Curie, a dodgy CG reconstruction for a Hong Kong news channel and one mention on Loose Women later, Keir found that a few people had paid attention.
