Feel, when the last tree falls in England?
When the concrete spreads and the town conquers
The country’s heart; when contraceptive
Tarmac’s laid where farm has faded,
Tramline flows where slept a hamlet,
And shop-fronts, blazing without a stop from
Dover to Wrath, have glazed us over?
Simplest tales will then bewilder
The questioning children, “What was a chestnut?
Say what it means to climb a Beanstalk,
Tell me, grandfather, what an elm is.
What was Autumn? They never taught us.”
Then, told by teachers how once from mould
Came growing creatures of lower nature
Able to live and die, though neither
Beast nor man, and around them wreathing
Excellent clothing, breathing sunlight –
Half understanding, their ill-acquainted
Fancy will tint their wonder-paintings
Trees as men walking, wood-romances
Of goblins stalking in silky green,
Of milk-sheen froth upon the lace of hawthorn’s
Collar, pallor in the face of birchgirl.
So shall a homeless time, though dimly
Catch from afar (for soul is watchfull)
A sight of tree-delighted Eden.”

- C.S. I have thought...

Tumblr Challenge: Day 01 — Your favorite song

I have thought about this a lot. I don’t think I have one singular favourite song. I have a lot of songs I really, really like. Such as “Cute without the E” by Taking Back Sunday, “Letters to You” by Finch and “Come Down” by Brie Stoner.

So to help me decided what to put for this day, I used my Last.Fm account, which I have scrobbling to for a couple of years now. On it has a wealth of information about my listening habits and most listened to bands. According to this information, “The Cave” by Mumford & Sons is my most listened to song with 76 plays.

I gave some thought to what I like so much about this song. I have always been a lyrics man myself, which is probably to do with with the fact I am tone deaf and know very little about music. The lyrics in this song are so full of hope. Marcus seems to be describing a time during or just after some difficulties. Some have linked the song to Platos “Allegory of the Cave”, which to be honest is a bit beyond but may be worth a read.

Either way this song is uplifting and full of hope. This is why I like it.

My Top 5 Artists (Week Ending 2010-6-27)

My Top 5 Artists (Week Ending 2010-6-27):

This is mainly due to final year of university taking over my life, including my final year project; Odima.

However, this week on Tuesday I found out that it was all worth as I gained a First in my degree and won an award for Odima. I am really pleased with this, as you can imagine!

And so these past few weeks since finishing uni have been a bit of a roller coaster. I haven’t decided if I’ll write about it all yet but it has been good and it has been bad. Good in the sense that we have partied and I have such a bright and exciting future ahead, bad in the sense that it is the end of an era and security!

However, I aim to revitilise my tumblr to make it more interesting than my listening habits! So I am going to do the 30 days of Tumblr challenge that a couple of people have done. Hopefully, this will get me excited about blogging and sharing again. If not, no worries, but it should be fun.

This will start in July because I am going away with Amy to Brighton on Sunday till Friday and intended not to look at Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or GMail. This will be all about exploring the area and having (more of a) rest!

I may post a couple things between now and then, but this is the plan. Hope you will enjoy it!

Peace.

My Top 5 Artists (Week Ending 2010-6-20)

My Top 5 Artists (Week Ending 2010-6-20):
